Your wedding day isn't a curated playlist of TikTok inspiration; it's a deeply personal experience that deserves to be treated as such.
Beyond photography, I am a fiancé, a dog dad, a naturalist, and a fly fisherman. Nature and the serenity of being near water inspire me, and it's where I often recharge after capturing the magic of a wedding day.
I'm David Howell, and I've always been a natural storyteller. From creating imaginative illustrated magazines in my childhood to now capturing love stories, my passion has evolved based on what drives me. I've witnessed the spectrum of emotions—joyous and beautiful moments, as well as raw and deeply emotional ones. I'm addicted to freezing time during this unique period in every couple's lives.
In every wedding, I recognize the uniqueness and significance of each moment, big or small. I approach my work with genuine, human connection, shooting from the heart to truly reflect the essence of every couple.
MY STORY
Photographs are the enduring remnants of a wedding long after the flowers have faded, the meals have been savored, and the venue lights have dimmed. Whether it's your future self reminiscing or a grateful soul discovering the precious gift of these memories, someone will hold these photographs close to their heart one day.
Here are photos of my parents. I recently became an orphan at the age of 31. Having lost my mom when I was 26, the passing of my father in 2021 left a big hole in my heart and life. What replaced their physical presence was photography. My parents obsessively took photos their whole lives, as we all do, and just as obsessively as my parents, I went through all of them again and again. Some of my favorites are of when they were in their late teens and early 20s as a fresh married couple. Trust me, time flies by, and while you may not think of certain photos as being important, they may develop to be some of your favorite pictures down the road.
ONE DAY, EVERYTHING CHANGED
My photography career started in high school with a darkroom class. When learning, I naturally gravitated towards what inspired me: birds, nature, pretty sunsets, patterns, and anything colorful. However, my teacher challenged me to try taking pictures of people. At the time, I protested and instead chose to do self portraits.
It wasn't until 2017 when I was asked to second shoot a wedding that my opinion changed. On that day, I experienced the joys of what make weddings special. I was invited into an intimate and emotionally full day with guests coming from out of state, generations of families putting on their elevated outfits, the raw tears of a first look, and the love pouring out of the couple and its guests.
Capturing all of this was powerful, rewarding, and energizing. I knew from then on what I wanted to do with my life.
MY APPROACH IS THIS:
I'm naturally a quiet person, but this has always allowed me to be observant. This allows me to capture the in-between the moments, the not so perfect. Moments that matter the most to you: that smile your significant other always does when they're content; that boisterous laughter your dad makes when something has really tickled him. And finally, when it's time to make those perfect portraits of love, I'll direct where required to bring out your true best self.
