Old Salem Engagement Session in Winston Salem

I met Kayla and Kaan at our Sip and See event at WinMock, which was a venue tour during the winter. I immediately knew that I wanted their wedding as they were both extremely nice, bubbly, and positive. They are just good people and people you want to be around. Katharine Mann managed to book them as a client first and recommended me as their photographer and I was super happy to heard they were interested in using me. Thanks once again Katharine for the referral!!

When they pulled up to their engagement session, I knew I was in for another enjoyable experience. We had a good time walking around Old Salem, goofing around, and making permanent memories through photography! I tried a few more playful posing queues this go around after having my own pictures taken with Three Regions NC, who is just an extremely good poser. I was excited how these came out and I’ll definitely have to include some of these in my regular rotation.

Enjoy this stroll around Old Salem and it’s surrounding streets!

ONE DAY, EVERYTHING CHANGED

I USED TO HATE PHOTOGRAPHING PEOPLE

My photography career started in high school with a darkroom class. When learning, I naturally gravitated towards what inspired me: birds, nature, pretty sunsets, patterns, and anything colorful. However, my teacher challenged me to try taking pictures of people. At the time, I protested and instead chose to do self portraits.

It wasn't until 2017 when I was asked to second shoot a wedding that my opinion changed. On that day, I experienced the joys of what make weddings special. I was invited into an intimate and emotionally full day with guests coming from out of state, generations of families putting on their elevated outfits, the raw tears of a first look, and the love pouring out of the couple and its guests.

Capturing all of this was powerful, rewarding, and energizing. I knew from then on what I wanted to do with my life.
