Sammi & Luke’s Belhaven Wedding

I don’t think I’ve ever photographed a windier wedding than this one at Flowers Landing in Belhaven, NC, but somehow it only made the day better. The two of them completely leaned into it — laughing through it all, dress and hair blowing everywhere, looking like they belonged in a coastal editorial shoot without even trying. I can’t describe how wind can make a day more stressful and they made it easy. With that said, I’m a super casual and easy-going photographer, so wind doesn’t get to me too much.

The waterfront setting out in Belhaven was unreal. Boats in the distance, a tented reception by the water, people hanging around playing lawn games and soaking everything in. It felt relaxed in the best way possible. Nothing rushed, nothing overly formal — just everyone genuinely enjoying being there together.

One of my favorite parts of the property was the dock. We snuck away there for some sunset portraits, and with the wind coming off the water, everything felt really alive and cinematic.

The couple also put so much thought into the experience for their guests. Custom details everywhere, cozy spots to sit and talk, drinks flowing, people laughing nonstop. You could tell they cared more about creating a feeling than putting on a production, and honestly those are usually the weddings people remember forever.

Wild weather, salty air, packed dance floor, and two people fully present with each other the entire day. Hard to ask for much more than that.

Maggie Marsh Events did a wonderful job planning and coordinating their event. I always enjoy working with her for Eastern North Carolina wedding events!
